This AJ50 practice has a great opportunity for an Urban designer to join its office in the centre of Reading. Offering a great working environment, benefits and the opportunity to work on a wide range of uk based Urban design projects.

This planning and design consultancy has offices around the UK offering the great combination of National coverage and local knowledge. The office is made up of around 100 people and has invested in developing a fantastic working environment for their staff. Due to continued growth and success they are looking to take on an urban designer to join the Reading office.

Role & Responsibilities

Working on UK projects, supporting with planning applications for new communities formed through housing-led developments of between 200 and 8,000 dwellings

• Conducting site, context and character appraisals to inform the design for new developments • Working up masterplan drawings, design strategies and detailed illustrations to support design principles

• Producing indicative layouts for either parts of or whole developments

• Colouring drawings by hand or using design software

• Supporting with the production/testing of concepts for the arrangement of landuses on site

• Supporting with the production of comprehensive design and access statements comprising written and graphic outputs

• Assisting the team to produce comprehensive Design Codes

• Working alongside local communities and other stakeholders through collaborative design workshops and public exhibitions

• Liaising with other technical professionals to ensure technical deliverability of projects

• Producing outstanding work to a specific brief and within tight deadlines; and

• Contributing to the design process through creative thinking and concept development

Required Skills & Experience

Have an MA in Urban Design • Have experience of working on large scale UK residential and mixed use development masterplans in an Urban Design or Masterplanning role;

• Have a strong design background;

• Be fluent in AutoCad, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Sketchup, Illustrator and Microsoft Packages

• Have a strong eye for detail

• Have an awareness and interest in developing sustainable communities

• Have excellent team working skills

• Be able to produce high quality hand drawings

• Be a good communicator • Be willing to learn new skills and techniques and

• Be organised and have good time management skills
