Advert for Client Side Project Managers (2 positions) – TSS Property Group

The Role

Two exciting  vacancies have arisen at the London Fire Brigade for  established or trainee Project Managers to work within the Technical Services and Support Property Group on major  building projects at fire stations, offices and other ancillary facilities within the London area.

The Client Project Managers will be responsible for all of the client side project management duties including leading on the project inception phase, agreeing briefs with internal stakeholders, producing detailed cost reports, monitoring and reporting on the project delivery phase, commissioning feasibility studies / option appraisals, report writing to obtain board approvals , managing consultants, contractors and internal work streams. We are looking for  client side experienced or trainee ‘Project Managers’ at Quantity Surveyor level, who would like the opportunity to progress, take on increasing responsibilities on a daily basis and to form part of a team to ultimately grow and develop their own skills and experience.

Currently, the major projects that the TSS Property are delivering/planning are:

  • a £15m + new training centre at Croydon fire station,
  • the fit out of a  leased premises for the Protective Equipment Group/Brigade Distribution Centre and to store logistical functions, located at Croydon,
  • Lambeth River Boat – replacement /refurbishment of the existing pontoon river station boat mooring and accommodation,
  • Whitechapel fire station – development of station and possible affordable accommodation. Relocation of existing appliance and crew to Shadwell fire station.
  • Edmonton – demolition and rebuild of the fire station.
  • Kentish town – demolition and rebuild of a fire station
  • Plumstead fire station – new site required.
  • Lambeth – redevelopment of old Headquarters site and build of a new Lambeth fire station
  • Middlesex stations (13 in total)  redevelopment .


Applicants will need to demonstrate a sound understanding of  project management methodologies, preferably in a building  and construction context, as well as the tenacity and drive to lead project delivery. They will also have experience of working flexibly in a team and respond effectively to changing priorities in order to meet deadlines and targets.

Assessment Requirements:

As part of the application  candidates  must provide evidence  to address the following criteria:

1.1         Discuss your experience of managing property related construction projects similar in financial size and nature to those described above, and explain your duties/responsibilities and the required skills you used in delivering these projects.

 

Note:     Experience does not necessarily need to be fire &rescue based and does not necessarily need to be from a client based role, but an understanding of both of these will be an advantage.

 

1.2.        Provide evidence as to how you would apply project related organisational skills to manage a number of different project work streams at any given time, and  demonstrate how you applied  effective communication skills in order to liaise, negotiate with staff at all levels as well as external contractors, stakeholders,  consultants, representatives of external organisations and members of the public.

 

1.3.        Discuss how you would   deal with complex construction issues and  related design information and discuss your experience in relation to delivering projects with the scope of the various RIBA Stages . Include how you applied financial management and budget spend against a project delivery timeline.

 

1.4         Discuss how you have  managed and applied  key project delivery principles, such as monitoring programmes, critical paths, milestones and updated senior managers  with detailed report s on progress., such as status reports, approval/permission and closedown reports to projects.
