GWPA  are looking for creative individuals to join our expanding head office studio in Leeds.

We have exciting portfolio of confirmed projects including residential, student residential, industrial, refurbishment as well as interesting smaller jobs working with Historic Listed Buildings.

We presently seeking staff to fulfil the following post.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the latest building regulation and British Standards Knowledge and understanding of sustainable technologies and assessment processes
  • Negotiating with contractors and other professionals
  • Attending meetings with clients, contractors and other specialists
  • Coordinating the work of contractors
  • Management and communication on all phases of the design process
  • BIM level 2 experience and working within a design team for BIM level 2 delivery
  • Able to manage a team of designers and technicians to prepare work packages for project delivery (dependent on experience)
  • On-site supervision for construction sites (dependent on experience)
  • Excellent detailing skills and experience in the preparation of production information

 Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for producing detail design tender / construction information on projects where the concept design has already been prepared.
  • To act as Design Leader within the design team and integrating the work of other consultants, specialists and suppliers
  • To exercise the requisite skill and care in the undertaking of duties
  • To provide lead on technical support to the rest of the client’s team
  • Contributing to high quality and consistent standards of design, project delivery and client care
  • Responsible for producing detail design development, specifications and construction drawing packages
  • To be visibly committed and loyal to the practice, team and clients.
  • To act as an ambassador for the brand and positively represent the company
  • To execute responsibilities of the Architectural Technologist role, undertaking potential additional roles / responsibility in accordance with GWPA procedures and professional guidelines


  • Production of hand sketches to help explain construction techniques / detailing
  • CAD drafting and / or BIM modelling for all work stages
  • Production of;
  • Building specifications – NBS or similar & issuing information and writing minutes​
  • Responsibility to maintain administrative commitments (printing, filing, document control, collating reports & brochures)
  • To be aware of project compliance with company procedures (including QA, EMS, CDM, H & S, Environmental procedures)
  • Responsibility within the project team for maintaining standards and model and the coordination of designs with other design team members
  • Responsibility for liaising with Clients and contractors as and when required
  • Contributing to the production of presentation material and production of project reports

Team & Practice

  • Responsible for taking part in team meetings / regular design reviews / weekly project meetings
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining a record of Continued Professional Development commitments and a Personal Development Plan
  • Keeping up to date with new technical and design thinking, trends and regulations
  • To aim to achieve the highest consistent standards of design, project management, client care and satisfaction


  • BSc or other

Essential Requirements

  • Sound understanding of MS software packages
  • Proven CAD skills – including ArchiCAD (preferred but not essential)
  • NBS Specification writing (dependent on the role)
  • Excellent technical competency
  • Awareness of relevant Acts, standards and construction legislation
  • Self-motivation
  • Team player
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Portfolio of work demonstrates thorough approach to design and technical delivery from feasibility to project completion
  • Very thorough understanding of the construction process
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of all members within the design team
  • Minimum 10 years post qualification experience running projects and preparing construction information (dependent on the role)

Desirable Requirements

  • Appropriate and up to date knowledge of legal / planning / construction legislation and procedures
  • Demonstrable examples of strong decision making, clarity of thought under pressure
  • Experience delivering office, residential and other commercial projects on site
  • Broad sector knowledge

  • To be flexible and committed to the needs of the practice, team and project within the terms of employment. This could include visiting sites throughout the UK and attending related events, etc.
  • Previous experience working in an Architectural Practice Environment
  • A thorough understanding of building pathology, architectural detailing, construction technologies and sustainable design solution
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD / ArchiCAD and BIM Protocols
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • A keen attention to detail
  • Be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Team player
