Could you help to set the architectural direction for the country’s railways?

The last five years has seen a growing demand for rail travel in the UK. In response, Network Rail has been working flat out to build new stations and infrastructure.  The next five years will be critical, as we continue to create better railways for the country. As a Principal Architect, your knowledge and expertise will prove absolutely crucial.

Leading a dedicated Architectural team, you’ll deliver an ambitious programme of strategic works and develop our architectural policy and guidance. Applying good practice, innovation and corporate objectives, you’ll set company-wide principles and design approaches for all kinds of major projects. That includes shaping an aesthetic architectural identity for UK stations.

We’re looking for an inspiring leader and Chartered Architect (or member of a relevant professional institution) – an expert with the motivation and knowledge to champion Network Rail’s interests. Your credibility will be based on senior-level experience of strategic planning, management, development and refurbishment in built environment schemes. In addition, you’ll bring evidence of how you’ve applied inclusive design principles.

In return, we offer a rewarding career with competitive pay and excellent benefits, including a choice of contributory pension schemes, a generous annual leave package, a bonus scheme and an annual 75% subsidy on season tickets costing up to £3,000 (to a maximum amount of £2,500). And on top of that, we’ll give you the chance to balance work and home life through flexible working.

Please note that this role is subject to security vetting.
