Base: Attached to our national office at Free Word Centre, Farringdon, London, but must be able to travel to our three centres regularly. This is a new role and we envisage that the post-holder will spend the majority of their time in London at the start on the set up, and thereafter travel more frequently to the centres.
Description of the role:
The Property Manager is a key role supporting the Properties Committee, reporting to the Director of Finance and Resources while working closely with the Centre Directors and Assistant Centre Directors. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of the whole Arvon estate amounting to approx. 60 acres in all, ensuring that our three properties are tranquil, welcoming and safe places for our writers to stay and work in. The Property Manager will also prepare, manage and draft the annual budget for the properties and their grounds, while upholding and developing our sustainability policy as it relates to our estates while maintaining the unique character of each centre and its landscape.
The ideal candidate: will need relevant experience as an architect, surveyor, estates manager or other historic buildings; professional technical knowledge of historic buildings conservation issues and challenges, gained from personal hands-on experience; training in CDM; experience of client liaison of contracts up to £100,000; will be able to build and manage strong relationships (with colleagues and external contractors); will have excellent communication skills and team working skills and be able to work flexibly as the demands of the job require, within the contracted annual hours with the ability to travel regularly between Arvon’s four geographically dispersed sites.
