The Chapter of St Albans Cathedral wishes to appoint a Cathedral Architect to be its principal professional adviser on all matters relating to the fabric of the Cathedral, its structure, contents and furnishings and its setting.
The architect will be responsible for overseeing all major repair and conservation works to the Cathedral and its surrounding precinct and for any maintenance work which would materially affect or permanently alter the fabric. He or she will have overall responsibly for advising on all aspects of the fabric, including aesthetic issues, and in particular in relation to the liturgy and worship of the Cathedral.
The successful applicant will be a registered architect or a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. He or she will have an understanding and genuine enthusiasm for complex historic and ecclesiastical buildings together with the ability to work creatively with the Chapter to enhance the Cathedral’s ministry or welcome to all through innovative architectural solutions.
