About the role
We’re looking for a talented and focused Design Director, to support and develop our South West region based in our Head Office in Ringwood.
We believe that great design is the foundation of what we do – and as the Design Director, you will be responsible for identifying strategies to maximise the development potential of all sites in the region and produce cost effective buildings through providing a high quality design and planning service.
You will work closely with the Land and Planning department heads to identify potential sites, preparing feasibility studies for land purchase and prepare/submit detailed sketch designs for planning. You will be overseeing and managing workflows and programmes to ensure that adequate resource is allocated to meet agreed targets and deadlines. You will also be commenting on planning submissions and represent the Company at external meetings such as planners and local authorities to engage and ensure the success of obtaining planning permission.
You will manage a department of qualified architects and designers and work alongside Land and Planning department heads to provide and manage a professional design service assisting with the purchase of land and achieving planning permissions for the region.
Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 9am – 5.30pm and 9am – 5pm on Fridays. You will also be expected to travel on a frequent basis to potential sites, local authority offices and development sites.
You will have gained a wealth of previous experience at a Senior Management level in Design for a House Builder; even better if gained in a Retirement Developer sector. You may be an established Design Director looking for a new challenge, alternatively you may be a dynamic and driven senior manager who is ready for the next stage in their career. You must be RIBA qualified.
You will be calm under pressure, used to working to targets and deadlines and have previously managed a team including conducting one to ones and monitoring career development.
Your communication skills will be clear and professional, you will be comfortable attending and presenting in Board meetings and announcing any updates and conducting training for your team.
There is a requirement to be at the Head Office for monthly and weekly meetings as well as visiting potential sites for development within the region on a regular basis.
