ArchitectSalaryGuide

We're often asked for advice on the average architect salary and salaries in architecture. Without addressing the specific case it's difficult to give meaningful or helpful guidance (it's a bit like asking the price of a house without knowing the details or if there's an interested buyer on the day) but as a very rough guide to London area norms, and bearing in mind the vagaries of the market:

Position Annual Salary Hour Rates
Part 1 / First Year Out Students £17-21,000 c. £10-12
Part 2 Assistants / Recent Post Diploma £23-27,000 c. £14-16
Part 2/ 1-2 Yrs Post Diploma £27-31,000 c. £16-18
Part 3 / Newly Registered Architect £30-34,000 c. £18-20
Project Architect / 3-5 yrs post-reg £34-42,000 c. £20-25
Beyond this point it depends so much upon the individual and the firm and the job but as examples for architects at least 3 or 4 years post-reg:
as Architect with small firm c. £34-37,000
as Architect with larger/commercial firm c. £35-39,000
as Team Leader with larger/commercial firm c. £39-45,000
as Associate with smaller firm c. £37-45,000
